By this time, I know you’ve heard about typhoon Ondoy and how it devastated many cities in the Philippines.
Since mid-day Saturday, SMS, emails, and all other microbloging networks had been deluged with updates on flooded areas. Before that Saturday ended, simple message turned into cries for help.
There are many accounts about Typhoon Ondoy, but let me share with you an article that pretty much sums up what happened on the height of the storm: In social media, a deluge of SOS messages
Indeed, the incident has encouraged global attention and spurred worldwide concern. Many Filipinos overseas, friends of Filipinos, countries, even strangers have extended help for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.
Multinational companies also offered help to their employees who have been affected. I commend Accenture, which as early as Saturday night already announced on national radio that they were giving calamity funds to their employees. What a quick service, such swift response!
The situation is heartbreaking. But the support from all over the world has come pouring in as fast and as strong as the flood waters were. The goodness of the human heart again emerges.
