A Successful and Outstanding Blog(gers) Party
    26 Oct 2007

There are particularly two reasons to celebrate today. First, CustServ is up and is slowly getting back on its feet. Second, SOB’s 2nd-year SOB anniversary party hosted by Liz Strauss was very successful.

Over six hundred people came to celebrate and so by this number alone, I believe that SOBs are really successful and outstanding. Up until today, there are still people dropping by and leaving their greetings.

What is a Successful and Outstanding Blog(ger)s to me (as I’ve also learned from being an SOB)?

Being successful and outstanding do not necessarily point to the number of hits your page gets. Rather, it’s about the extent of your impact on people’s lives. It’s about being able to touch them, inspire them, being like a family to them.

Because of SOB, and my fellow customer service bloggers, I strive hard to blog better and be an inspiration to others, the same way that they have been to me. Being an SOB and a customer service blogger, I also want to wield an enormous influence on companies and inspire them to build meaningful customer relationships.

I would also want that same influence on customers to demand exceptional service every time, and at the same time help companies provide that kind of service to them.

The road is long and bumpy at times, but with everyone’s help, I know we can make a difference.

Again, congratulations, Liz and fellow SOBs!

    When I Think of Home…
    15 May 2007

customer relationshipsMother’s Day always has this effect on me. It makes me think of home. This longing for home—for my home with my parents and brother—is even more pronounced when I got Liz Strauss’s invite to her Open Mic: We’re Happy to be Home edition.

I knew the topic was a happy going-home message from a successful SOBCon 2007 in Chicago.

The Open Mic made me feel nostalgic, and well, made me think of home: where we would eat meals together and linger in the dining table, hear mass together, share stories, gather around the piano and sing, spend the nights/afternoons on my parents bedroom, play boardgames and enjoy freshly squeezed lemon juice and grilled cheese sandwich, take on trips to the beaches, walk in the boulevards, laugh to our hearts content, and just spend lazy Sunday afternoons together. Home is our little safe corner in an otherwise confusing world. It is our hearth.

Judging from the conversations in the Open Mic, I knew that Liz and I were surrounded by sweet people who think that home is where their wife or family is, where there were smiles, companionship, understanding, love, and lots of Klondike bars. :D

So what does this have to do with customer service or customer relations? To me, learning how to build and nurture meaningful relationships begin at home. Great relationships are stuff that exceptional customer service is made of. :)

    Customer Service Blogs Round-up
    21 Mar 2007

It’s Wednesday again and time to do the rounds and see what’s the latest in customer service. March being women’s month, I will put the spotlight today on fellow women bloggers and see what they’re saying about customers and customer service. :)

Maria Palma of CustomersAreAlways has an interesting post about employee ownership. She poses the question: If employees were given ownership stock in the company they work for, do you think customer service would be much better? I think there is a greater tendency for employees to take care of the business and its customers. They have the answer for “what’s in it for me?” I say a greater tendency because not all business owners, or employees for that matter, are customer centric.

Becky Caroll of Customers Rock! Becky shares what she learned after reading Jonathan Tisch’s interesting book, Chocolates on the Pillow Aren?t Enough: Reinventing the Customer Experience. Tisch, being Chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels, I’m sure the book is filled with insights on customer service. I agree with the quote that Becky shares: ?It is no longer enough to manufacture fine products or provide good services. We need to help our customers improve their lives - one experience at a time.? I’ll definitely check the book out. ;)

Stephanie Weaver of Experienceology shares the insights of the book Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business by Danny Meyer. Meyer’s words: “Hospitality is present when something happens for you. It is absent when something happens to you. Those two simple prepositions?for and to?express it all. It is a dialogue, showing the customer that you are on their side.” Another interesting book worth checking out.

Finally, Liz Strauss of Successful Blog, (proponent of SOB: Successful and Outstanding Bloggers), is hosting an SOBCon 07, a virtual mini conference where you learn and share your ideas on how to take your blogging to the next level. It’s happening on May 11-12 at Chicago O’Hare Sofitel. Speaking on the event are Liz, Phil Gerbyshak, Mike Sansone, Terry Starbucker, Drew McLellan, Ben Yoskovitz, Chris Cree, David Armano, Mike Wagner, Rodney Rumford, Scott Rafer, Diego Orjuela, Wendy Piersall. This SOBCon will definitely help us bloggers on how we can give wonderful (customer-service) experiences to our readers-customers. Wish I could join!
